  1. Tips on Choosing Special and Beautiful Pet Urns

People who have pets understand very well that losing a pet is a big loss. We don’t lose a pet but someone who loves us even more than we love ourselves. After the loss of a pet, it can be difficult to decide what kind of urn to choose. You may want a certain kind of material, or to capture an aspect of your pet’s personality. Here we list down tips to choose special and beautiful pet urns.

    Size and Weight

This is one aspect you can think of while choosing your pet urns. As it is not common to choose urns, so it can be pretty difficult to what kind of volume needed for the ashes themselves, and whether this can vary depending on the type of animal.
You must look for the technical specifications while choosing the urn which includes dimensions, capacity, pet weight.
You may also want to make sure that the urn you buy is the right size for the urn’s chosen location. For example, an urn that is suited for an outside memorial may not be well suited to resting on a mantelpiece or elsewhere inside the home.

    Type of Urn

The type of urn you purchase for your pet is also very important. The conventional pet urns are mostly designed modestly and can also be customized with the inscriptions to commemorate the pet. Another type of designs includes specifically for scattering. These can often be smaller and lighter, designed for carrying and for comfort during the scattering ceremony, but missing the robust aspects of an outdoor display urn.

    Cost of the Urn

Cost of the pet urn is the key factor choosing your pet urn. While you may not be able to put a price on the love for your pet, it is important to make sure you are buying a quality, suitably-priced urn that will be a lasting memorial to your pet.
But, buying a cost-effective pet urn doesn’t mean that you will often have to compromise on quality. It is not uncommon for these urns to damage easily, especially when placed outside as part of an outdoor memorial. Moreover, the function of the urn also impacts its cost. The intended use of the urn can have a big impact on both quality and cost.

    Quality of the Urn

You must keep in mind the quality of the urn while choosing it. Undoubtedly, no urn can replace your pet but this pet is going to be a memory of your pet. So, never compromise on the quality. But, choosing a quality urn doesn’t mean that you should buy a costly urn for yourself. It can be cost-effective as well.

    History of the merchant

Make sure the place from where you are buying an urn for your pet gives you a quality customer service. The merchant will be able to give you a good service when they themselves understand what it is to lose a pet. So, before buying an urn, don’t forget to have a look at the background of the merchant.

  2. The Reason Pet Urns and Memorials are Important

Pets have become family members to most of us who have adopted them.  The loss of a pet can be extremely difficult to devastating. People are finding that memorializing their beloved pet can help in the grieving process. It honors the love and the bond that we share.  It also supports the feeling that the good-bye is not so final.

It is difficult to find information on the number of pet cremations and pet funerals are held each year, the experts agree that the number is growing rapidly. My husband and I have 3 pet cremation urns in our home and when we pass, those pets ashes will be spread with ours. With each urn we received, I hugged it to my chest and felt the love I had, and have, for Flash Girl, Bessie, and Sweet Pea.  It felt like a little sense of having in the face or those losses.  It felt much the same when I placed the ashes in the urn and set it in the perfect spot in our home.

Pet Urns and Memorials - the choices available

There are thousands of types of urns and memorials available to us for our pets.  You can choose your memorial to fit your pet's personality and the decor of your home, or the burial site.  Many of the urns and memorials available come with customized engraving on a nameplate or the urn.
    There are:
    • Hardwood boxes with a figurine on the top.  Those figurines could be a lifelike representation of your pet in the breed's coloring, or a bronze cast type figurine.
    • Vase urns in a vast array of prices from the small metalic urns, to brass engraved urns, to leaded crystal urns.
    • Hardwood boxes with a slot in front for your favorite photo.
    • Lifelike castings of your pet in a lifesize urn.
    • Burial markers that are custom engraved with text and, or a photo.
    • Oil portrait paintings in realistic or abstract.
    • Other types of figurine stylized urns that may be a sleek cat or a sleeping angel dog.
    • Pet urn jewelery that holds a small amount of cremains.

Pet Urns and Memorials - your personal choices

Ever My Pet was started by We Three Sistes in 2007.  We started it after I realized that I wanted more of a selection for the loving memorial for our Sweet Pea than what was offered in the catalog at our Vet.  I found a local family owned pet urn manufacturer that had thousands of choices.

When you shop for their loving memorial for your pet it is a very difficult time.  It can be especially difficult when it comes to the engraving because you are expressing your sentiments for your beloved angel pet and honoring your bond.  It is important that:
    • You proof read any engraving that they have chosen.  We always reach out to the customer if anything looks to be mispelled our punctuation seems out of place.
    • Choose the perfect memorial for your pet and you.
    • Seek grief support if you need it.  Many Humane Society locations have grief support meetings and counseling available.  We have a pet loss and grief support page.
